Verbena incense was used, among other things, for ritual purification. This herb was once one of the most important medicinal plants. Claimed as sacred, it was believed to have miraculous properties, for example, healing the wounds of war and conferring immortality.

Vervain, meadowsweet and mistletoe were the magical herbs of the Celtic druids, who had great herbal knowledge. These herbs were said to have special powers, which is why they were given the name "sacred herbs of the Celts". Among these magical or sacred herbs, is also the watercress. Since verbena was considered a panacea in the Middle Ages, it was used in many magic potions. In Wales called " Devil's Bane ", it was used there to drive away evil spirits. By Gallic druids it was valued almost as highly as mistletoe. Dedicated to Venus, it is used today in love incenses and as an ingredient in magic pouches. Also, to add power to a spell, verbena incense is an excellent option.
